About
Bio
BEATMASTER CHRIS grew up with records. His mother always knew the latest songs, and his passion for collecting comes from her. Then there was Michael Jackson, his big idol. He made his first attempts on the turntables in 1993, aged 13, in his parents’ basement and at the Hot youth center in Stadtlohn. He learned beatmixing on original vinyl records within six months.
He played his first club at 17, in 1997 at Old Daddy in Haltern. A year later a bar and a dance café in Stadtlohn followed, both run by the same owner. In 1999 he got his chance as a trial DJ at A30 in Ibbenbüren. Club manager Roy Zitter took him under his wing there, and it’s thanks to him that Chris found his way into the scene. When A30 closed for a rebuild, Roy put him behind the decks at Zak in Uelsen. The rebuilt club reopened as Aura in 2000, and he got to play there as a stand-in DJ at just 20.
That same year, still going by DJ Chris, he won the weekly round of Battle of DJs on Jam FM three times. Also in 2000, Lars, a DJ from Aura, moved to the main room at Joker in Lingen and recommended Chris for the black music room. The room had only just been added, and within a year nine DJs had tried their luck there without getting the place going. With Chris, the vibe was right from the first night. From January 2001 he was the resident there, seized the chance and built up the room.
In 2001 DJ Chris became BEATMASTER CHRIS. He stayed loyal to Joker for 17 years. From 2008 to 2010 he was a resident on the N-JOY Saturday Night Flavor Mix, and from 2009 to 2018 he played regularly at Aura again.
His roots are in R&B, hip-hop and dancehall. The mic is part of his set. He uses it sparingly, but at the right moment with full power. No over-the-top hosting: the music comes first. He has played more than 70 clubs in Germany, Austria and the Netherlands and shared the stage with 112, Joe, Mario Winans, Fatman Scoop and Ashanti. More than 500 artists have recorded a personal drop for him.
Musically, he has always looked beyond his own genre. Right at the start, in the bar and the dance café in Stadtlohn, he had to play every genre. That is where he learned to apply his craft to any kind of music. Today his open format sets also take in tech house, bass house, dance, techno and pop. He has been producing since 2007 and remixes for artists from the US and Europe. His US contacts came through a long-time friend who promoted artists in Europe himself.
On top of that, he knows event technology: he installs and programs lighting and is a qualified laser safety officer, so he is allowed to set up and operate lasers himself.
